Concept
Counterpunch
Countering means responding to an opponent's punch with your own the moment theirs misses or lands short. Great counterpunchers turn defense into offense — slip the jab, land the cross.
How to do it
- 1Read the opponent's rhythm and lead.
- 2Defend (slip, parry, or block) while staying in range.
- 3Fire back through the opening they left.
- 4Reset to guard immediately.
Common mistakes
- Defending and then hesitating.
- Backing straight up instead of countering.
- Over-reaching on the counter.
