Punch

Uppercut

The uppercut is a vertical punch thrown upward, devastating at close range and against opponents who drop their head. It uses a leg drive and slight dip to generate lift and power.

How to do it

  1. 1Dip slightly at the knees, keeping posture upright.
  2. 2Drive up through the legs.
  3. 3Punch upward with the palm facing you, elbow tight.
  4. 4Snap back to guard.

Common mistakes

  • Dropping the hand low to load up (telegraph).
  • Leaning back instead of dipping down.
  • Throwing from too far out.
