Punch

Cross (Straight Right)

The cross is a straight punch thrown with your rear hand across the body. It generates power from the ground up, driving through the rear leg, hips, and torso rotation. Paired with the jab it forms the classic 1-2 combination.

How to do it

  1. 1Pivot the rear foot as if putting out a cigarette.
  2. 2Rotate the hips and shoulders toward the target.
  3. 3Drive the rear fist straight forward, palm down at impact.
  4. 4Keep the lead hand up to guard and recover to stance.

Common mistakes

  • Arm-punching without hip rotation.
  • Flaring the elbow out.
  • Lifting the rear heel too late (no drive).
